Museum IJburg 2003
Situation: IJburg, Amsterdam, seven islands with their own character, is a new town district of our capital. Here people will live, work and recreate on and around the water. The location for the new museum lies on the East point of the Zeeburger-island. The way to the newly build museum is a walk surrounded by trees and water. From where one has a broad view on Steiger-island with the Ijburg-bridge and in the distance Ijburg-bay. The water defines in a strong degree the museums ambiance. With knowledge concerning the location, a dyke of approximately 2,4 kilometres, I have decided that the properties of the museum should also be retrieved in those of the dyke, and the other way around. For this reason Iimmediately thought of a small and long building that would have to lie parallel to the dyke. Outside the building, on the dyke, walkers and cyclists have to do with a rather long façade, not too high and preferably closed. Because of this the walkers, while passing the building, will experience the relation between the time and the distance in a different way. The importantent thing was, concerning the form of the building, the visual property of the dyke itself, long and small.

Building & construction 2001
The designing tasks for “building and construction” relate to a building for a collective of artists. It exists partly of private studios and partly of one larger space in which can be worked on large projects. The possibility must exist to have a visual connection between the private studios and the large space. To bridge over the width (19 meters) of this large space without having columns in middle of the working space I choose for a steel Three-hinged frame made from of metal manufactured hollow chutes. By adding a extension on one side of this construction makes it possible to support a 6 meters overhang.
